The mayor of Uman spent the night under the office of the President, protesting against the arrival of Hasidim
Kiev. August 18. INTERFAX-the Mayor of Uman, Cherkasy region, Alexander Tsebriy spent Tuesday night at the entrances to the office of the President of Ukraine to achieve a ban on Hasidic pilgrimage to Uman on the Rosh Hashanah holiday this year.
"I finish today in Kiev under the office of the President... on the sleeping pad in a sleeping bag. I'm going to rest because I'm really tired, " Cebri said in a video message recorded at night under the office building and posted on his Facebook page.
According to the mayor, on this day he left Uman, managed to visit Cherkasy, and then in Kiev gave interviews to more than 20 TV channels and explained the situation to the OSCE representatives.
"I am here to defend the interests of Uman residents. I do everything I can to ensure that the city is safe, that there is a stable epidemiological situation, that our children go to school, do not study online, that our doctors do not have jobs, that we go to Church for our services. I think it's worth it. Today there is a first step-the statement of Mr. Avakov, " said Tsebriy.
Earlier, he distributed on his page a message from the Propositiona party that read: "the Mayor of Uman is picketing the office of the President. 94% of Uman residents, according to the results of sociological surveys, are categorically against mass pilgrimage to their city by foreigners from the "red zone" countries. However, the Central government ignores solutions to this issue. The mayor Alexander Tsebriy is forced to live under the office of the President to get a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky, so that he intervened in the situation."
As reported, participants of the interdepartmental meeting in the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine came to a joint opinion that the arrival of tens of thousands of Hasidic pilgrims to Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah in the traditional format in 2020 is impossible due to the epidemiological situation.
Later, the Ministry of health of Israel called on Kiev not to allow this year's Hasidic pilgrimage to Uman on the Rosh Hashanah holiday.
On August 17, Tsebriy threatened to block entry for Hasidim during Rosh Hashanah due to the coronavirus and said that he would go to Kiev to meet with the President of Ukraine to discuss this issue.
On the same day, Ukrainian interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that the government supported the decision to restrict foreign visitors to Uman for the period of Rosh Hashanah celebrations in 2020.
