The governments of Ukraine and Israel urge pilgrims to refrain from visiting Uman on Rosh Hashanah
Kiev. August 18. INTERFAX-the Governments of Ukraine and Israel called on Jews who plan to take part in celebrations on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah in Ukraine to refrain from visiting the city of Uman, Cherkasy region
"This year, the epidemic situation in Ukraine and Israel, as well as around the world, unfortunately, does not allow us to traditionally celebrate this holiday. Guided by the recommendations and warnings of the Ministry of health of Ukraine and Israel, we urge all pilgrims who plan to take part in the current celebrations on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah in Ukraine to refrain from visiting the city of Uman due to the threatening epidemic situation,"-said in a joint Ukrainian-Israeli government statement published on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
Those who still decide to visit Uman are reminded that the quarantine in Ukraine applies to all public events and must be strictly observed.
"We hope for understanding and sincerely believe that next year we will be able to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and other holidays together without any restrictions," the statement said.
As reported, on August 17, Ukrainian interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that the government supported the decision to restrict foreign visitors to Uman.
Earlier, the mayor of Uman, Alexander Tsebri, threatened to block entry for Hasidim during Rosh Hashanah due to the coronavirus and said that he would go to Kiev to discuss this issue with the President.
