A priest of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated the Liturgy at the burial site of John the theologian in Turkey on the day of the Apostle's memory
Moscow. October 9. INTERFAX - about 150 Russian-speaking pilgrims from different parts of Turkey, Russia and Ukraine gathered for the Liturgy on Friday, the day of the earthly death of the Apostle and Evangelist John the theologian, in the Turkish city of Selchuk in the Church at the burial site of this Saint.
The service was performed by priest Georgy Sergeyev, who is responsible for the care of Russian-speaking believers in Turkey, and Archpriest Sergiy Kazarin, who is responsible for the care of the faithful of the Moscow Patriarchate in Antalya, also took part in the service.
The Liturgy was attended by numerous pilgrims from Istanbul, Izmir, Bodrum, Antalya, Alanya, Kusadas, as well as believers from Russia and a group of pilgrims from Ukraine.
During the service, petitions were offered to save the Church from divisions and schisms, prayers to stop the spread of coronavirus, prayers for peace in Ukraine and good-neighborly relations between Russia and Turkey.
The practice of performing divine services by ROC priests on the territory of Turkey, which was previously considered the canonical territory of the Church of Constantinople, began about two years ago, when there was a break in communication between the Moscow Patriarchate and Constantinople due to the latter's non-canonical actions in Ukraine. In response to requests from Russian believers living in Turkey, Patriarch Kirill sent a priest, Georgy Sergeyev, from Moscow, to take care of the Russian-speaking flock.
