Russian authorities want to reduce the cost of electricity to temples
Moscow. April 23. INTERFAX-Chairman of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin discussed with energy Minister Alexander Novak the issue of payment by religious organizations for energy at the rate set for the population.
"The possibility of including religious organizations in the preferential group of consumers - the "population" - was discussed,-the press service of the state Duma told reporters on Thursday.
It is also reported that Volodin and Novak reached an agreement that "the state Duma and the Ministry of energy will calculate all costs and try to find a solution to this issue."
The press service explained that we are talking about churches, mosques, synagogues, Buddhist temples, monastic complexes, which often include shelters.
"Currently, religious organizations pay for gas and electricity at market prices, since they are not classified as a preferential category of consumers," the press service said.
"Given that the activities of religious organizations are carried out at the expense of donations from citizens, and especially now, when they are closed to the public due to the spread of coronavirus, it would be correct to consider changing the tariff," the state Duma noted.
