Beglov instructed to work out the issue of postponing the payment of utility bills to churches
Saint-Petersburg. April 23. INTERFAX - the authorities of St. Petersburg will work out the possibility of postponing payment of utility payments to city churches.
According to the press service of the Governor's administration, on Thursday, the head of the city Alexander Beglov discussed by phone with Metropolitan Varsonofy of Saint Petersburg and Ladoga cooperation during the period of restrictive measures, including issues of maintenance of churches.
"Metropolitan Varsonofy asked for a postponement of payments for utilities. Alexander Beglov said that he instructed the heads of district administrations of St. Petersburg to work out the issue with the city's energy supply and utility organizations and ensure that payments can be deferred for churches of the main faiths," the message reads.
The Governor called on businesses to help religious organizations whenever possible.
"On days when believers can't visit churches, religious organizations have difficulties receiving funds, which are used to pay for utilities and security," Beglov said.
The Governor thanked the Metropolitan and the clergy of the St. Petersburg Metropolitan area for their cooperation during the difficult epidemiological situation.
In accordance with the decree of the government of St. Petersburg, the city has a ban on visiting churches until April 28. It does not apply to clergy and employees.
